What is the Mazunte Jazz Festival?

For the past 16 years, Mazunte has been filled with excitement as the site of the International Jazz Festival. A free musical event that has its origin since 2005, when the government, in search of an option to promote the culture of the population and local art, decided to create the First Jazz Encounter and something more, a forum dedicated to spreading the beauties of Mazunte and music.

Such was the success of the event at a national level, that 5 years later this project was transformed to an international level, with the aim of attracting visitors from all over the world and boosting the economy of the region, creating the perfect combination of jazz music, beach and nature, a unique festival in the region of Oaxaca!

This musical event has become a boom in the Oaxacan town, since internationally renowned artists in the world of jazz have attended, such as: Karla Borgueti, Miguel Samperio, Billy Martin, Magos Herrera, Cienfuegos and Los Amigos Invisibles, who in each edition delight jazz lovers with the fusion of the genre with innovative rhythms: trova, reggae, blues, rock, etc.

In addition, this international festival gives local jazz musicians and bands from Puebla, CDMX, Guadalajara and more the opportunity to showcase their talent.

When is the International Jazz Festival held?

This long awaited Jazz Festival in Oaxaca is held every year in the third week of November, as part of Mazunte’s National Conservation Week and lasts three days, which are filled with jazz music and a great amount of activities and exhibitions to enjoy.
